Bio

Liya Sarmiento is an award-winning actress known for her notable roles and performances
in films under the lenses of Kapampangan Cinema. She’s the only two-time recipient of the
coveted Best Actress award from Central Luzon’s biggest, and longest short film festival,
CineKabalen. Liya started her professional acting career under the mentorship of Isabelo
“Bicong” Del Rosario, and Immanuel Dela Cruz. Later on, she has worked with acclaimed
Kapampangan filmmakers, Jason Paul Laxamana, Bor Ocampo and Carlo Enciso Catu. Liya
also played roles for Bing Lao’s award winning film, Dukit (2013), and Chito Rono’s Signal
Rock (2018), the Philippine entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 91st Academy
Awards.

Liya’s greatest achievement as an actress to date is her leading role in Carlo Enciso Catu’s
Kapampangan period drama film, Aria (2018). Written by Gawad Urian Best Screenplay
Writer, Robby Tantingco and produced by Holy Angel University and Center for
Kapampangan Studies, Aria is considered one of the gems of regional films. After it’s
humble premiere at the UP Film Center, it made its way to a special Pampanga-wide
screening sponsored by the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), organizer of the
annual Metro Manila Film festival (MMFF), because of its significant importance and film
merits.

Aside from being an actress and an active advocate of regional cinema, Liya is also
producing films and video contents for YATU Film Productions.
