About the Program

The Philippine Film Archive (PFA), which is under the supervision of the FDCP, collects, preserves, protects, catalogues, manages, and provides access to audiovisual materials, including film negatives and prints, that are part of the country’s historical, cultural, and artistic heritage. The PFA also aims to produce online content on top of its ongoing digitization program, intellectual property rights protection initiative, and film repairs and restorations. 

Among its restored titles are by National Artists for Film: “Genghis Khan” (1950) by Manuel Conde, “Portrait of an Artist as a Filipino” (1965) by Lamberto V. Avellana, “Pagdating sa Dulo” (1971) and “Manila by Night” (1980) by Ishmael Bernal, and “Maynila sa mga Kuko ng Liwanag” (1975), “Insiang” (1976), and “White Slavery” (1985) by Lino Brocka. Other restored works are “Zamboanga” (1937) by Eduardo de Castro and “Brutal” (1980) by Marilou Diaz-Abaya.
